Title : THE INFLUENCE OF IRRIGATION AND DRIP FERTIGATION REGIME ON SPECIFIC WATER CONSUMPTION AND EVAPOTRANSPIRATION COEFFICIENT IN TOMATO CROP PRODUCTION
Abstract : The experimental trial was conducted with tomato hybrid Optima at open field near by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food in Skopje, during the period of May to September in 2003 and 2004. The main aim of this investigation was to identify the influence of irrigation and drip fertigation regime on specific water consumption and evapotranspiration coefficient of tomato crop in Skopje region. Five different treatments of irrigation and fertilization regime of tomato crop were aim of our investigation. The first three treatments were irrigated by drip irrigation and drip fertigation, the treatment four was irrigated with drip irrigation and conventional application of fertilizers and the last one the treatment five was under furrow irrigation and conventional application of fertilizers. From the average results of specific water consumption obtained in the investigation, it can be concluded that there are not significant differences between the treatments В1 and В2 (drip fertigation every 2 and 4 days). As a result of irrigation frequencies, the treatment В3 (drip fertigation every 6 days) showed 12 to 15% higher specific water consumption in comparison with В2 and В1 or 38 liter of used water per kilogram tomato yield. The results are statistically significant. The control treatment with drip irrigation and conventional application of fertilizers (Ø1) showed almost 20% higher specific water consumption in comparison with treatment with same irrigation regime but different application of fertilizers (В2). The effect of irrigation techniques on specific water consumption is presented by the comparison of the results from the control treatments Ø1 and Ø2 (furrow irrigation and conventional application of fertilizers). Namely, control treatment Ø2 show 60 liter of used water per kilogram tomato or 46.5% higher value in comparison with Ø1. The results are statistically significant at 0.05 level of probability. Also, similar results are obtained with evapotranspiration coefficient. Namely, treatment В1 showed the lowest average evapotranspiration coefficient (ETk) from 383.4, while the control treatment Ø2 showed the highest ETk (705.4) or 84% higher in comparison with В1.
