Dr. Naveen Kumar is 35 years old and a male Indian national. He presently works (since 2008) as post doc associate at the South West Florida Research and Education Center, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Immokalee, University of Florida. He completed in 2006 his PhD as “Institute Topper (85.8)” in Plant Physiology/Post Harvest Physiology from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute with his dissertation entitled “Physiological mechanism of bud opening and its regulation in roses”. From 2006-2007 he was employed as lecturer for Biotechnology at the Amity University, Noida, UP, India and from 2007-2008 as Sr. Lecturer for Biotechnology at Lovely Professional University, Punjab, India. At the SWFRC, University of Florida he is primarily engaged in Citrus research with (1) mechanical harvesting by applying chemical abscission agents, and (2) working with canker and greening of Citrus by trying to understand the interaction between host and pathogen. His specializations are: Post harvest and stress physiology, plant pathogen interaction, mechanical harvest of citrus and flower senescence. Dr. Kumar’s “Basic idea is to learn from nature and then develop effective strategies to control diseases instead of blindly using eco-system damaging, environment polluting chemicals.” The list of his publications is outstanding. The candidate started already as a young researcher publishing his first article in the Indian Journal of Plant Physiology in 2007. Impressively, the following 17 publications from 2007 to 2011were all as first author in internationally and professionally reputed journals, mainly in the fields of post harvest physiology and plant pathogen interaction. There are two proceeding (2009-2010) with the Florida State Hort. Science under his name. He lists 8 more manuscripts under preparation resp. submitted to major international papers. Dr. Kumar is a member of 5 scientific societies, part of the editorial board for 8 journals and acted as reviewer for 20 journals.
